MOUNTAIN BIKING: Javelina/Mustang/Burro

← AZ SAN CARLOS RESERVOIR COOLIDGE DAM AZ Single Tracks →

Description

Steep loose climb up the Upper Javelina. You will climb over a saddle and down the other side, then the trail will split. Left is the Wild Mustang, right cuts back down towards the Ritz, (not recommended). WM climbs up to another saddle, then splits again, with the Cochie Spring trail going left. Do not take this, but continue up the WM up to a ridge ahead. This is tricky at times and you will have to HAB in places. Trail is for quite accomplished riders, or at least fit riders who know when to get off and push! Continue on up, the trail will eventually get somewhat easier, then will peel off and down towards the Upper Wild Burro trail. At the second gate, you can turn around and come back, or take a couple of other options, either down the Wild Burro, tricky with some difficult HAB, around some of Alamo Spring trail, down the Spur trail to the Wild Burro, or make a long loop around the east side of the Tortolitas.

New trails are being developed, so the area is improving all the time.

Directions

From I10 take Tangerine exit in Marana, go east to Dove Mtn. Blvd. turn left up

the hill. Go almost all the way to the Ritz Carlton entrance and park at the Wild

Burro TH on the right. If you reach the roundabout you are about 1/4 mile too

far. Ride up to the roundabout and go straight, then immediately right onto a

path parallel with the road to the hotel entrance. Cross over one road, then

down and over a golf cart track, then across another road and immediately left

onto the trail parallel to that road. Continue on past the entrance to the golf

club, and you will come to a metal gate. Upper Javelina trail starts up the hill

immediately to the right.
